Minister Shatter welcomes signing of contracts for new school building for St Colmcille’s National School, Knocklyon

Alan Shatter TD, Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, speaking at the official signing of the contracts for the St Colmcilles Senior and Junior National new school building project at Knocklyon, said “having supported, over many years, the campaign for a new school building for St Colmcilles, I am delighted to be invited here today to sign, as a witness, the contract for the construction of the new school.”
Minister Shatter congratulated all those involved in campaigning over the last decade for a new school building, in particular Senior School Principal, Padraig O’Neill, Junior School Principal, John Boyle and Chairperson of the Boards of both Senior and Junior schools, Fr Jimmy Murray, and said that pupils and teachers at St Colmcille’s could now look forward to a new era in what will be a state of the art facility.
The new St Colmcille’s National school building is scheduled to be ready for use in September 2013. St Colmcille’s is the largest national school in the country with 1500 pupils and 110 staff.
