Alan Shatter TD, today called for better management by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council of water stoppages in areas of Ballinteer, Dundrum, Mount Merrion and Leopardstown.
“I have been contacted by constituents who have been left without running water from 7.00 p.m. each evening until 9.30 a.m. the following morning for the past 10 days. For people out at work all day this means that they have no running water during the hours of the day that they are at home. Not only are they left without water for cooking, washing and flushing toilets etc but neither can they wash clothes or dishes. The situation is impacting hardest on working parents with small children.”
“Stoppage of the water supply is a health and safety disaster made worse by bad management on the part of the Council. At the very least, the hours during which water is cut off should be managed to avoid the current situation where people who work full time are left with no running water for days on end.”
