Mr. Brendan McDonagh:  As the associated loans are commercial loans which are linked to the land and development borrowers, many of them include interest rate swaps whereby the receiver is allowed to swap with the bank a fixed amount under a lease thereby hedging his or her loan exposure rather than being exposed to rising rates. Cowen failed to ban use of sunbeds by children – Shatter

Speaking today, Alan Shatter TD, Fine Gael Spokesperson on Children, said that legislation banning the use of sunbeds is long overdue.

NAMA — THE GAMBLE OF THE CENTURY

Public and political discussion about the Governments proposed legislation to establish the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) must not take place in a sterile fiscal vacuum.    Our values and social policy objectives must inform our discussion as must principles of fairness, justice and accountability.  Moreover, the enormity of the growing financial and economic crisis together with Government spin and pressure must not result in our airbrushing out of public debate and failing to address the impact of the current crisis on the lives of many thousands of families and individuals.
