Barrier Free Tolling Causing Commuter Headaches – Shatter

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Dublin South Fine Gael TD, Alan Shatter today criticised the new barrier free tolling system following reports that the new system is misreading information on up to 200 cars a day.

“In addition to those motorists who have received bills in error, some motorists have received a demand for €40 for not paying their toll fees by the payment deadline – before the 14 day deadline had arrived!”

“I have received complaints from constituents who received demands for a toll charge on a day when they did not use the M50 toll bridge, one constituent was not even in the country on the day in question. Attempts by them to resolve the problem which was not of their making were frustrated by lengthy waiting times to get through to a call centre helpline”.

“Urgent action needs to be taken to fix this problem which is causing confusion, annoyance and inconvenience to substantial numbers of commuters.”
